Worst. Media scare. Ever.

It’s teenage pregnancy again.

Wait, don’t click that yet.

This comes from the Telegraph, it’s an article on the number of teenagers in Britain, I assume female for obvious reasons, who have had multiple abortions.

_______ of teenage girls have had three abortions or more, according to figures that campaigners say paint a profoundly depressing picture of modern Britain.

Ok, I can understand that the idea of there being teenage girls getting three abortions can be scary. I understand the concern that would occur were this to become a common practice. The pro-life organisations would throw their hands up in a fit claiming “We told you this was a slippery slope!! Abortion’s being used everywhere!! It’s political correctness gone mad!!!!” and so on.

Ok, so, tell us. How common is this pandemic of baby dumping? Just how many teenagers have had “three or more abortions”?

Hundreds? Thousands?! MILLIONS?!!? Can you guess?

Dozens of teenage girls have had three abortions or more, according to figures that campaigners say paint a profoundly depressing picture of modern Britain.

Government data have disclosed that 89 girls aged 17 or under who terminated a pregnancy last year had had at least two abortions previously.

Oh. That’s not too scary, now is it? That’s only 7.4 dozen. Or, 6.8 baker’s dozen, which seems more appropriate seeing as these girls all had a bun in the oven. Or three.

Christian doctors said the statistics demonstrated the failure of liberal sex education policies… …“It is increasingly clear that abortion is simply being used as a form of contraception by a growing percentage of girls and women, and that tired policies of values-free sex education, condoms and morning-after pills are not working,” he said.

Awesome, apparently letting kids now the reality of how their private bits work isn’t a good idea, and the solution is to put the fear of God in the little buggers. Because, you know, that works so well in the US where it’s been tried (H/T Salted Slug for this).

Newspapers have never been shy of exaggerating the implications of slightly shocking news stories for effect, but, my God, Torygraph, if you’re going to milk a story for shock value, at least try.
